Guide to Using Snapchat to Attract Millennials

Guest post from Nick Rojas, who is a freelance business/marketing journalist and a business consultant.

If you haven’t heard the buzz surrounding Snapchat, it’s high time you familiarize yourself with it. With this photo-messaging app, users can take photos and short videos and share them with their followers. The content is only viewable for about 10 seconds, and then it is gobbled up by the black hole of the interwebs, where it is never seen again.

Among the marketing tools that businesses have in their tool boxes, Snapchat is becoming one of the most powerful. When you consider an estimated 26 million people use the mobile app in the US, and 58 percent of the 77 percent of college students who use it daily are more inclined to buy a product from a company if they have received a coupon for that product on Snapchat, and you have a huge audience to target your products to.

If you’re a business owner and you aren’t already taking advantage of Snapchat for marketing, you really need to be. How can you utilize it for your marketing needs? Here are some helpful tips.

Share Your Special Events

Snapchat is an awesome way to advertise your special events, like grand openings, trade shows, and charity events. The mobile app provides your audience with direct, live access to your event, no matter where they may be, allowing them to get involved with and interact with your event.

An awesome example of an enterprise that used Snapchat to promote a special event is when the NBA used the mobile app during their draft picks, All-Star games and finals. The Association marketed its brand on Snapchat, allowing fans to get familiar with the players during the game.

Share New Products

Snapchat is an excellent way to share new products with your audience. Share a video or pictures of your new products so your followers can get a taste of what is coming. Since the Snaps only last for a short period of time, you’re sure to get a decent amount of buzz about your new products.

For instance, if you are going to be releasing a new video game, share clips from the game via Snapchat and you’ll be sure to grab the attention of your followers and make them yearn for more!

Keep it Fun, Yet Professional

Snapchat is about being fun, lively, and upbeat. Send your followers Snaps that are stuffy and full of boring corporate stuff and you’re bound to lose followers. The users of this social media site are looking for fun, so let them have it!

However, do keep in mind that you have to maintain a certain level of professionalism. The majority of Snapchat users are between 12 and 34, which means that you need to make sure the content you share is appealing and friendly for this age bracket. Think “Toy Story=” or “Monsters’ Inc-” type comedy.

Incentives are the key to turning your followers into real clients. Offer your followers giveaways and sweepstakes and they’ll be more inclined to become your customers. For example, share a coupon for a one-off deal via the mobile app, or advertise a sweepstakes for a product giveaway.

Advertise your incentives on Snapchat and you’ll not only entice your followers, but they’ll likely spread your incentives to others by retweeting, sharing and commenting via other social media platforms.

Using these guidelines, Snapchat can drive customers to your business and boost its overall success.
