Using Travel + Places touchpoints

Touch­points allow rel­e­vant infor­ma­tion to be shared seam­lessly between Travel + Places and other top­ics. Exam­ple: If you have a restau­rant defined as a ser­vice provider in Peo­ple + Ser­vices, you can choose that restau­rant as a place you wish to take a vis­i­tor from Travel + Places. Or if you want to plan an out­ing that will include other peo­ple, you can define that out­ing in Travel + Places and, via the touch­point to Events, it will show up as an event in Events. Or, if you have travel– or visitor-related resources such as online doc­u­ments that are defined in Notes + Files, you can access those resources directly from Travel + Places. And shop­ping items and tasks required for a trip or a visit can be defined in Travel + Places and will show up in Shop­ping and Tasks + Projects, respectively.

How do I use Travel + Places?

The Travel + Places topic view pro­vides these sections:

Trip Cal­en­dar

Tap Trip Cal­en­dar to go to its view. If there are trips defined, all trips are listed, sorted by date. Each trip includes the trip’s title, start and end dates, and num­ber of places.

To cre­ate a new trip, tap  in the title bar. To edit a trip, tap it and mod­ify its set­tings, then tap Save. To delete a trip, swipe to remove it from the Year view. To view the details of a trip, tap it.

Tap Day to view all trips for a given day. This view loads today’s date by default. Tap  to advance to the next day’s view or tap  to go to the pre­vi­ous day’s view.

Tap Month to view all trips for a given month. This view loads the cur­rent month by default. Tap  to advance to the next month’s view or tap  to go back to the pre­vi­ous month’s view. In this view, dates for which trip data exists will have a “.” in them. Tap on a date in the cal­en­dar to have that date’s data dis­played in the view.

Tap Year to view all trips for a given year. This view loads the cur­rent year by default. Tap  to advance to the next year’s view or tap  to go back to the pre­vi­ous year’s view. In this view, dates for which trip data exists will have a “.” in them. Tap on a date in the cal­en­dar to have that date’s data dis­played in the view.

From the Day, Month, or Year view, you can tap Today to bring the cur­rent view to today’s date.

Tap Fil­ter to be able to spec­ify whether or not to include inac­tive trips. Trips which have no start date set or for which the start date is in the past are con­sid­ered inac­tive; all other trips are con­sid­ered active.

Vis­i­tor Calendar

Tap Vis­i­tor Cal­en­dar to go to its view. If there are vis­i­tor entries defined, all vis­i­tor entries are listed, sorted by date. Each vis­i­tor entry includes the visit’s title, start and end dates, num­ber of vis­i­tors, num­ber of places, and num­ber of tasks.

To cre­ate a new trip, tap  in the title bar. To edit a trip, tap it and mod­ify its set­tings, then tap Save. To delete a trip, swipe to remove it from the Year view. To view the details of a trip, tap it.

Places

A “place” is a busi­ness, venue, estab­lish­ment, or point of inter­est that you want to remem­ber. Restau­rants, muse­ums, and parks are all exam­ples of places.

Places is a touch­point to the Places sub­cat­e­gory of the Travel + Places cat­e­gory of Ser­vice Providers in the Peo­ple + Ser­vices topic. This means that places defined here will appear as ser­vice providers in the Places sub­cat­e­gory in the Travel + Places cat­e­gory in the Peo­ple + Ser­vices topic. Tap Places to go to its view which con­tains the fol­low­ing sections:

Places:

• If there are no places defined, this sec­tion will con­tain a but­ton titled Tap to add: Ser­vice Provider (Places). Tap that but­ton or tap  in the title bar to define a new place.

Tap Add in the sec­tion header to define a new Travel + Places sub­cat­e­gory at this level; tap Edit in the sec­tion header to edit, rename, hide or delete the exist­ing sub­cat­e­gories at this level; or tap a sub­cat­e­gory to dis­play the cor­re­spond­ing view for that subcategory.

Travel + Places Notes

“Travel + Places Notes” are trans­porta­tion– or recreation-related infor­ma­tion items that you want to track. This data can include things like book­marks to travel sites, e-tickets and itin­er­aries stored remotely, ad-hoc notes about places you want to go or things you want to do in your spare time, and login cre­den­tials for travel-related online resources you wish to access.

Travel + Places Notes is a touch­point to the Travel + Places cat­e­gory in the Notes + Files topic. This means that travel and places infor­ma­tion items defined here will appear in the Travel + Places cat­e­gory in the Notes + Files topic. Tap Travel + Places Notes to go to its view which con­tains the fol­low­ing sections:
