Dashboard for iPad

The LifeTopix dashboard on the iPad consists of 2 panels — the Topics panel and a consolidated panel comprised of the What’s Next, Quick Inbox, Recently Updated, and Quick Access panes. Swipe left or right, or tap More > or < More to move between panels.

The title bar appears along the top and the toolbar appears along the bottom. The title bar and the toolbar remain unchanged no matter which panel is selected.

Tap  in the title bar to bring up the Quick Search box. Type in the Quick Search box to cause the view to update dynamically to display all LifeTopix items that contain the search text. Tap on a result to go directly to the relevant details view for that item. Note that Quick Search is case insensitive, so a search of “art” will yield the service provider “Arthur Hansen” as well as the event “Pool Party”.

Topics panel

This view contains one icon for each of the 12 LifeTopix. Refer to Overview help to learn more about each topic and its functionality.

You can change the order of topics in this panel, or hide topics so that they are not displayed. Tap  in the panel toolbar to reorder or hide topics.

What’s Next

This pane shows upcoming date oriented items. By default, items with dates in the next 7 days are shown. Tap  in the header for this pane to change the number of days for which to show items. Note that the items that are included in this pane are determined by the Filter options specified in My Calendar.

The bottom of this pane has an Alerts section. If alerts exist, a red badge appears at the right side of the Alerts section header to indicate how many alerts exist. Tap  in the Alerts section header to expand that section, or tap  to collapse it. Once expanded, the Alerts section includes a summary line for any of the following that exist in LifeTopix:

  • overdue tasks
  • incomplete shopping lists whose due dates have passed
  • unpaid bills whose due date has passed

Tap on any summary in the Alerts section to reveal all of its items, then tap on an item to view its details view.

Quick Inbox

This pane allows you to capture any kind of information quickly so that you can provide more detailed information later as time permits. Being able to record your ideas easily in a reliable system for later analysis represents the Collection phase of the Getting Things Done® (GTD®) methodolgy developed by David Allen.

Tap  to bring up the Quick Inbox new entry box. Provide some text in the Item field, then tap Act by to provide optional date information. If Act by is set, that date and time will be displayed in this item’s summary along with the words “Act by”. Tap Soon or Someday to indicate whether the new item should be added to the Soon list or to the Someday list, then tap Save to save the item.

Tap  in the header for this pane to reorder or delete items in the Soon and Someday lists.

When you are ready to add additional information to an item in the Quick Inbox, tap its , then select an item type to convert to from the resulting action panel. Specify the item’s details, then tap Save. Once you specify additional details for an item in the Quick Inbox, its icon will change to the corresponding item type; until then, its icon will be .

Recently Updated

This pane lists the items in LifeTopix which have been created or updated most recently. Tap on an item to go to its details view.

By default, this list includes all items updated in the last 7 days. Tap  in the header for this pane to change which item types are included in the display, or to change the number of days for which to display updates.

Quick Access

This pane displays all items for which you have created a quick access shortcut.

A quick access shortcut can be created for most object types in LifeTopix. To create a quick access shortcut for an item, tap-and-hold that item until Add to Quick Access appears, then tap Add to Quick Access.

Tap  in the header for this pane to reorder or delete quick access shortcuts.
