My Calendar
Striving to deliver a better experience
via exceptional documentation.

My Calendar gives you convenient access to all your date-oriented LifeTopix objects, whether or not they actually have dates specified for them. Date-oriented LifeTopix objects include tasks, projects, events, bill payments, trips, visitors, shopping lists, and so on.

How do I use My Calendar?

Tap  Calendar in the Navigation Pane to display the My Calendar view.

My Calendar includes the following views:

  • Day: view all date-oriented objects for a given day. This view loads with the date you last viewed in this mode.
  • Week: view all date-oriented objects for a week. This view loads the current week by default.
  • Month: to view all date-oriented objects for a given month. This view loads the current month by default. In this view, dates for which date-oriented objects exist display a dot and the current day is circled.
  • Year: to view all date-oriented objects in a list format

Tap on a date in the calendar to have that date’s objects displayed in the view. Tap  to advance the day, week, month, or year or tap  to go to the previous day, week, month, or year.  From the Day, Month, or Year view, you can tap Today to take the current view to today’s date, or tap  to bring up the date picker to take the view to a specific date.

Tap  to be able to specify whether or not to include device Calendar(s), Tasks, Projects, Events, Trips, Visits, Appointments, Reminders, Occasion Reminders, Shopping Lists, Bills, Notes with Date Tag, Quick Inbox items, Expenses, and Health + Activity log entries. If Include Device Calendar(s) is set to YES, then you can tap  to select which device Calendars to include in the My Calendar view. Filter also allows you to specify whether or not to include inactive items. Once you have made your selection, tap Save to apply your choices or tap Cancel to exit without applying your changes.

From any view, tap an object to go to its details view.

Tap  in the title bar to display the Quick Add action panel. If you wish to create a new object (Project, Trip, Visitor, Attending Event, Hosting Event, Occasion Reminder, Task, Appointment, Reminder, or Note) or make a new log entry (Activity, Nutrition, Health Statistic, Medication, or Wellness), tap the appropriate item, enter its details, then tap Save.

The determination of what is “active” versus what is “inactive” depends on the type of object. The following table shows what is inactive per object type:

tasks Status is Canceled or Completed
reminders Time attribute is not set
bills Paid On is set to a date in the past
shopping lists List contains no items or contains only “checked” items
notes Date Tag is not set or is set to a date in the past
appointments Ends date is set to a date in the past; or if Ends date is not set and Starts date is set to a date in the past
projects Ends date is set to a date in the past; or if Ends date is not set and Starts date is set to a date in the past
trips Ends date is set to a date in the past; or if Ends date is not set and Starts date is set to a date in the past
visitors Ends date is set to a date in the past; or if Ends date is not set and Starts date is set to a date in the past
events Ends date is set to a date in the past; or if Ends date is not set and Starts date is set to a date in the past

The day view conveniently defaults the time of the first event, but weekly view always defaults to starting at midnight, so every time I hit the weekly view I have to scroll down to waking hours, which is annoying enough to forgo using it. Please advise how to fix this. Thank you.

      Hi Ali,
Thanks for reaching out. We’ll fix it in our 6.1 update in May. We agree it is annoying.

The quick add button at the bottom left is a great way to get something down if one is in a hurry. However, being in a hurry, one could add an appointment or reminder this way and hit ‘save’ yet forget to add the date (it says date is optional after all). The problem with this case is that the appointment or reminder doesn’t go on the Calendar nor does it appear under Undated Items. A search locates it, but is otherwise “nowhere”..

          Hi Ali,
Recently updated or added items show in Recent as well. They should be showing in My Calendar on the List view under Undated. We’d love to make it more obvious — any preferences?

I just installed LifeTopix on my iPhone and I configured the iOS calendar and my google calendar. But all day events that show on my iOS calendar as an all day event just across the top of the daily calender show in LifeTopix and blocks the whole day. In fact, if there are 2 all day events (which I use as reminders but don’t want to block my time), only 1 shows on the LifeTopix calendar. Why can’t the all day event just display at the top? Ths could keep me from using the app.

      Hi Lisa,
Thanks for reaching out. Currently all-day items go across the entire day. We plan to improve that soon to list them at the top. We apologize for the inconvenience int he meantime.

Just purchased and installed Lifetopix on my iPhone and iPad. Also installed air access on my Mac. First impressions are great although it is very comprehensive. I see the help topics on your website. Is it possible to obtain a pdf file of all the help topics so I can print it out to study?

    Thanks.

On my iPad and iPhone I have 3 Mircrosoft Exhange Server calendars set up — one for a classroom planning calendar, one for the classroom final calendar, and my personal/work calendar. Currently the calendar shows everything from all 3 calendars. I cannot find a way to not show the classroom calendars except when I need them. Also, if I enter something in LifeTopix calendar, then I need to be sure that it only goes onto my personal/work calendar and NOT onto the classroom calendars. Is there a way to do this? I realize that most people do not have 3 exchange calendars setup but I definitely don’t want my personal items being posted on the classroom calendars. It’s also not helpful to have the same item listed on my calendar 2–3 times depending on whether something happens to be on my work calendar as well. The calendar is so cluttered that it is difficult to find the things are pertinent to my personal/work calendar. Especially since the classroom calendars basically are full from 8 to 5 M-F. Thanks!

      Hi Phyllis,

Thanks so much for your questions — we’ll take each one of them in turn.

First, regarding your query as to whether or not there is a way for you to control which device Calendars are included in your LifeTopix My Calendar view… Currently, as you know, when you set the My Calendar filter to “Include Device Calendar”, all of the items from all of your device Calendars will be included in the LifeTopix My Calendar view. In a future release, when a user such as you has multiple device Calendars, we hope to be able to give you the ability to pick and choose which of those gets included in My Calendar. This will depend on whether or not Apple gives us the ability to differentiate amongst Calendar entries to this level. We have not confirmed that yet, so please stay tuned to our roadmap for further developments on this.

Second, regarding your desire to make sure that when you add a date-oriented item item in LifeTopix that it only gets added to your personal/work calendar and not onto the classroom calendars… Currently, all entries that LifeTopix adds to your device Calendar are added to the “Default calendar”. You can control which calendar is your “Default Calendar” via your device’s settings (Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Default Calendar). If you set Default Calendar to your personal/work calendar, then LifeTopix will add its entries to this calendar and not your classroom calendars. If this is not what you are experiencing, please email us directly at our support email address so we can work with you to determine what is happening. Here again, in the future, we hope to be able to give you more fine-grained control as to which calendar(s) your items get added.

Finally, regarding your desire to have the same item that resides on multiple calendars listed on the LifeTopix My Calendar only once… That is an interesting requirement, and it certainly makes sense to us. This will definitely require some investigation as to whether or not we would be able to use the existing interfaces that Apple provides us to be able to ascertain when an item on multiple calendars are, in fact, the same item. It may seem like that should be straightforward, but it requires us to examine every detail of every calendar item. Even if the Apple interfaces for that exist, it may not scale for users with many calendars and lots of entries in them. That’s something we’re always careful to consider when we make such design changes. Regardless, we have added this as a requirement for our development team to investigate.

      Best regards,
      Team LightArrow.

Hello.… I am trying to find a way to set a recurring something on my calendar that has no time, just certain dates/days. I noticed that tasks has an option for date only but a random time still shows up when I save it .… ?
I am very happy to see more calendar functions coming! Thank you. I would like to request that recurrence can be set to say, every other wed. Not just dates or weekly, monthly, yearly. I feel very optimistic about what you guys have going here but really need to get more use out of the calendar for it to work. Thanks for your time!

      Hi Roxann,
Thanks so much for the question and the compliments!
We do set a time behind the scenes so that device reminders can be triggered. It is not random however — it’s set to 9am for future and past dates, and to the next hour for the current date when a task or something is created with a date and no time is specified. We are looking for ways to improve is behavior in order to be less confusing.
For tasks, appointments and bill payments, in 4.0 (in a couple of weeks) we are adding repeat schedule behavior similar to what you’ve asked for.
      Best regards,

    Good afternoon,

Currently the month view of my November calendar won’t show anything in the list (appointments, tasks, etc.) even though I’ve got the filter set to show everything. The dots appear in the calendar squares to indicate something should be there, but the list below the calendar is blank. Oddly enough everything shows up fine in the other two views, and for the month view it only seems to be affecting November; December is working as it should. Is this a known issue?

    Thanks!

      Nov 15, 2011

      Hi Jen,

Thank you for asking about this.

This is a known issue — it affects items in November because it is related to the end of Daylight Savings Time.

We have developed the fix and that fix is being tested right now. Because it is calendar-related and the calendar functionality is so extensive, we want to make sure we have tested this thoroughly.

Since release 4.0 is planned for submission to Apple early next month, we have decided to incorporate this fix in release 4.0 rather than to create a separate patch release. That’s because creating a separate patch release would cause 4.0 to slip into next year and, based on feedback from other customers, they would prefer not to see 4.0 slipped out.

      Best regards,
      Team LightArrow.

      Hi Marty,
Currently we support recurring tasks (which automatically create calendar reminders on your device). Occasion reminders (e.g. birthdays, anniversaries) and bill payments can also be set to recur.
In the future we plan to support recurrence for appointments.

          Hi Lynn,

In release 4.0, the repeat functionality (i.e., recurrence) currently available for tasks has been added to appointments and bill payments.

We hope to be able to submit release 4.0 to Apple in the next few weeks.

Thinking of purchasing this app but I need to know whether the calendar syncs with the Iphone calendar and whether you can sync it with gmail calendar.

    • LifeTopix Support
      Sep 07, 2011

      Hi Brian,

LifeTopix is fully integrated with the iOS Calendar application on your device, and this integration is 2-way:

      1) LifeTopix -> iOS Calendar: When you add a date-oriented item to LifeTopix, an entry for that item is added to the LifeTopix My Calendar. In addition, an entry is optionally added to your iOS Calendar. This option is controlled via LifeTopix Settings.

      2) iOS Calendar -> LifeTopix: The LifeTopix My Calendar has a filter option that allows you to specify that the My Calendar should include device Calendar information.

If you set up your device such that it sync’s your iOS Calendar and your Google Calendar, the Calendar on your device will reflect all of your date-oriented items from your device, from Google Calendar, and from LifeTopix.

      Best regards,
