NOTE: This help page applies to both LifeTopix (and other classic LightArrow apps) as well as to LightArrow Organizer for iOS and Mac. So, the screenshots and directions may vary slightly based on the app you’re using.

In your LightArrow app, you can create Education projects, Assignments, Media projects, Health projects, and general-purpose projects.



Health Project: A project for health-related  items that you wish to accomplish. Dental health, training for a triathlon, and having your hip replaced are all examples of health projects. Health Projects take the category of “Health + Goals.”

Education Project: A project for any education-related endeavor, such as “Home Schooling 2014,” “Learn Piano,” “Java Programming,” etc. for the purpose of assigning tasks and holding reference material. Education projects take the category of “Education.”

Assignment: A project for any education-related assignment that requires completion. Education Assignments take the category of “Assignment.”

Media Project: Print-, audio-, photo-, or video–related work items that you wish to accomplish. Connecting your new surround sound system and researching your next stereo system purchase are both examples of media projects. Media Projects take the category of Media.

Project: A project is any individual or collaborative undertaking that is planned and designed to achieve a particular goal. Projects typically have tasks associated with them. An example of a project could be “Re-organize Kitchen” or “Re-build Website.”


The following describes how to create each type of project:

  • Health Projects: In the Health + Goals topic, tap the Health Projects tile (iPad) or tap Multiple Touchpoints (iPhone/iPod touch), and then select Health Projects.
  • Education Projects: In the Education topic, tap the Education Projects tile, and then select Education Projects.
  • Assignments: In the Education topic, tap the Subjects tile, add a new Subject, and then tap the Assignments tile.
  • Media Projects: In the Media topic, tap the Media Projects tile, and then tap the plus sign.
  • General-Purpose Projects: In the Tasks + Projects view, tap the Projects tile or tap the plus sign and choose Project.


In the Projects view, a list of all the projects that you created are listed, and you’re able to create, modify, and edit projects. This includes all media, health, education, and general-purpose projects.


You can view all your projects in the Projects view by tapping the Projects tile in the Tasks + Projects topic. When you’re viewing a list of projects in the Projects view, you can view the list in different ways. You can show all projects (ungrouped); view projects by category; view projects by context tag; or view projects by the last updated date. Additionally, you can create a project that already reflects the category or context tag that you’ve expanded in this view by tapping a category or context tag, and then tapping Tap to add a New Project below it.

To group projects:

  1. In the Projects view tap the selector at the top-left of the view.
  2. Select Ungrouped, Category, Context Tag, or Last Updated. The app remembers the previous selection.


You can add, modify, and delete projects. You can also create categories for projects directly from these views.

How to create a new Project:

  1. If you’re creating a project from the Projects view, tap Tap to add a New Project.
  2. To quickly create a project, type a name and start date, and then tap Save.
  3. Optionally, tap Full Details (after typing a name for the project) and add an optional comment describing the project.
  4. If you wish to add a thumbnail that represents the project, tap Add Photo and select or add a photo.
  5. Tap the Status field to set the project status.
  6. Tap the Dates tile to add start and end dates for the project, then tap Set.
  7. Select or add a category by tapping the Categories tile.
  8. Add others to the project if this is a group project by tapping Participants, tapping the add icon, tapping participant(s), tapping Save, and then tapping the back arrow.
  9. Optionally add context tags to the project by tapping the Context Tags tile (select an existing tag or create a new one by tapping New.)
  10. If you wish to change the iOS calendar that the project is associated with, tap the iOS Calendar tile and then select Specify iOS Calendar.
  11. If you wish to set iOS Notifications (local notifications) for the project, tap Show iOS Notifications. Refer to iOS Notifications for more information.
  12. To add a location for the project, tap Location and select one of the options.
  13. Add additional items, such as Tasks, Checklists, Expenses, etc. by tapping the plus sign at the bottom of the view. (See Tasks + Projects for information about associating items.)
  14. Tap Save.


When you create projects, it’s easy to communicate with all the participants at the same time by following the procedure below:

  1. Open the project by tapping the Projects tile, tapping the project, and then tapping Open.
  2. Tap the Participants tile and tap the Email icon.
  3. Tap Email All.
  4. Write and send the email.


How to modify a Project:

  1. Tap the tile that contains your project in the topic of choice.
  2. Tap the project you wish to modify and then tap Open.
  3. Modify the items by tapping the tiles.
  4. Tap Save.


How to delete a project:

  1. Tap the tile that contains your project in the topic of choice.
  2. Tap the project you wish to delete to expand the row, and then tap Delete.


How to add a new Project Status:

  1. Tap the Project Statuses tile.
  2. Tap the plus sign from the top right corner.
  3. From the New Project Status view enter the project status name.
  4. Tap the Save button from the top right corner to save the changes.

How to update a Project Status:

  1. Tap the Project Statuses tile.
  2. Tap the project status that you wish to update to expand the row, and then tap Configure.

How to delete a Project Status:

  1. Tap the Project Statuses tile.
  2. Tap the project status that you wish to delete to expand the row, and then tap Delete.


You can add subcategories for projects directly from Manage Categories or you can add subcategories while you’re in the process of adding projects as described below.

How to add a subcategory for a project:

  1. In the Projects view, tap the project you wish to add a category for, and then tap Open.
  2. Tap the Categories tile.
  3. Expand a category, and then tap the plus sign to create a sub-category under any category you wish.
  4. Tap Tap to set name and then type a name for the sub-category.
  5. Optionally add a comment.
  6. If you want to hide the category, change the switch to Yes. When a sub-category is hidden, it no longer appears in the Categories tile, but it remains defined, and is still available in the category list.
  7. Tap Save.


You can sync your LightArrow app projects and tasks to Asana. You must first provide access to Asana via Logins for Integrations.

How to sync projects and tasks with Asana:

  1. In the Projects view, tap the project you wish to sync with Asana, and then tap Open.
  2. Tap Sync and choose Asana.
  3. Tap Save.
  4. The project and tasks are synced.


You can share projects via email or discuss projects via social media or SMS. Users who receive a project via email can manage it in their app.

How to share a project via email:

  1. Tap the Projects tile in the Tasks + Projects topic.
  2. Tap the project you wish to share and tap Open.
  3. Tap Share and then tap Email.
  4. Choose a recipient(s) and then tap Send to send the email. If you’ve set up participants for the project, they are selected by default.

How to collaborate about a project:

  1. Tap the Projects tile in the Tasks + Projects topic.
  2. Tap the project you wish to collaborate about and tap Open.
  3. Tap Share and then tap Post, Tweet or Text Message.
  4. A message displaying, “I’m working on a project (project name). Any recommendations?” appears.
  5. Modify the message as desired and send it.
  6. If you wish to view the replies at a later time, tap View Replies.

How to export a project to a CSV file (associated tasks are exported):

  1. Tap the Projects tile in the Tasks + Projects, Lists topic.
  2. Tap the project you wish to export and then tap Export.
  3. Complete the email and tap Send. It contains the .csv file from the export.
